WHAT TO DO IN SPRING??

Spring is right around the corner — a great time to start your financial cleaning!! Getting this done now prepares you for the tax season and 2019’s financial planning. So, focus on these:-

SHREDDING THE DOCS

Many financial documents don’t need to be kept past seven years, per IRS rules. After that, they can be shredded. Consult your tax advisor if you have questions about specific documents. (Property records like deeds and mortgage payoff letters should be kept forever in paper form.) Digitalizing and saving these docs to a secure location is a good option.

FREE ANNUAL CREDIT REPORT

You can request a free copy of your credit report from each of the three major agencies – Equifax®, Experian®, and TransUnion® – once a year at AnnualCreditReport.com or via 877.322.8228.

Check your details carefully, and if you see an error, request a dispute form from the agency within 30 days of getting your report. Your report can also alert you to potential fraud or identity theft.

UPDATING PASSWORDS

Many people never change passwords or only use one password for many online accounts. Consider updating your passwords this spring. And when you pick security questions, choose those whose answers aren’t readily available on social media – things like your dog’s name, high school, or favorite sports team may be easy for someone to find.
